Storytelling in the Classroom
Wolf Dog Workshop has created an innovative approach of using
storytelling and multimedia in the classroom that provides teachers and their students with many benefits.
First, by building on students’ natural love for stories, teachers can help strengthen their students’ reading, writing, listening and vocabulary skills in a fun and exciting way. Using multimedia as a tool to enhance this experience is particularly effective given media is a language that children of all backgrounds respond to.
Second, storytelling can help develop students' creativity and imagination, as well as help them discover the relevancy of their own experiences--which can contribute to students’ emotional well-being and self-confidence.
Third, as students learn about themselves and the world through the stories they create, teachers can learn more about their students through their words.
Wolf Dog Workshop offers teachers and their students an opportunity to participate in this basic yet profound human activity, using a unique, fun and enriching approach that not only develops students’ academic skills, but also builds character.
Storytelling is a basic human activity among all cultures throughout the world. As Ursula LeGuin wrote, "There have been great societies that did not use the wheel, but there have been no societies that did not tell stories."
